Famously Incidental – Orchestral Classics Concert: 17 – 19 Jan

Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra brings you Famously Incidental, a selection of well loved famous incidental works.  Expect to be transported into the world of Grieg, Beethoven and Bizet in this exploration of light and lovely classical works inspired by plays.

Cape Town City Ballet

Swingtime in the Park: 23 – 27 Jan

Cape Town City Ballet returns to Maynardville with Swingtime in the Park, Sean Bovim’s ballet performed to music of the swinging thirties. Relive the past as you listen to hit tunes such as It had to be You, Unforgettable, Fly me to the Moon, Mack the Knife, Fever  and The Way You Look Tonight.

Jesters in the Park – season 2: 31 Jan – 02 Feb

The Jesters Return! Produced by The Cape Town Comedy Club, and hosted by thespian legend, Rob Van Vuuren, this showcase of some of SA’s hottest stand-up talents once again brightens up the Theatre under the Stars. This chance to laugh at the stars, the world and ourselves is not to be missed and best enjoyed with friends and family

Alan Committie

Richard III, William Shakespeare: 06 Feb – 09 Mar

The annual open air Shakespeare production turns it’s attention to one of the Bard’s most deliciously dark and delightfully droll tales – the tragedy of King Richard the Third. The infamous hunchback anti-hero (played by award winning actor Alan Committie) takes the audience on a journey through palace politics, coruscating corruption and macabre machinations in order to become the new king of England.

Award winning Shakespeare director Geoffrey Hyland returns to Maynardville after the triumph of Twelfth Night (2017) to helm this comic-tragedy. With a cast of 16, this production promises an action-packed, theatrical rollercoaster as it depicts the Machiavellian rise to power and subsequent short reign of King Richard the Third.

Opera Evening in the Park: 10 Feb

At sunset, Cape Town Opera Young Artists and pianist José Dias will enthral you with music from Puccini, Donizetti, Mozart, Strauss in one of Cape Town’s magical settings, Maynardville Open-Air Theatre.  An evening of classical Opera in the Park

Derek Gripper

Derek Gripper @ Maynardville: 24 Feb

World renowned guitarist Derek Gripper returns live under the stars. Drawing on European classical traditions, avant-garde Brazilian music, Malian kora, Cape Town folk, and even Indian classical music, he has created a new and beautiful guitar music which has carried him to the world’s stages including his Carnegie Hall debut in 2015.

Well known song-smith and composer Graham Weir performs, with Jono Tait, works inspired and composed from the plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare

Vumani Choral Project

Gospel Classics: 10 Mar

A rejoicing of praise and worship music with a flair of African taste, sung by a classically trained ensemble, accompanied by a live band. This explosion of gospel classics celebrates the end of the Maynardville Open Air Festival. Come let us sing!
