Act Fast: Maynardville’s 70th Anniversary Shows Selling Rapidly as Festival Unveils New VIP Experience
There’s a taste of spring in the air, and with just over four months to go until the Maynardville Open-Air Festival’s 70th Anniversary summer season kicks-off, tickets are already selling fast. The limited feature shows; Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra(16 and 17 January 2026) and Gershwin in the Park by Cape Town Opera (15 February 2026) are already halfway to sold out. The two ballets – Cape Ballet Africa’s Maina Gielgud’s Giselle ( 20 and 21 January 2026) and Cape Town City Ballet’s Swingtime (23 and 24 January 2026) are hot on their heels. Jazz is a new addition for 2026 , which kicks off the summer season in a jazz-infused classical chamber concert Shades of Blue on 13 January followed by Jazz in the Park on 14-15 January; a vibrant repertoire of contemporary and classic jazz compositions, including timeless favourites such as My Funny Valentine, Take Five and Autumn Leaves. Two once-off concerts, The Great American Songbook, will be performed by the Paul Roos Orchestra, conducted by Wessel Odendaal, alongside the country’s finest vocalists – Katlego Maboe (SABC 3 Expresso Show Presenter), Tankiso Mamabolo (Chicago, A Midsummer Night’s Dream & The Tempest) and Amy Campbell (AcaNote, Kinky Boots) – to bring the magic of the Great American Songbook to life. In 2026, the Maynardville Open-Air Festival is introducing a luxurious new experience with Premium VIP tickets. VIP ticket holders will enjoy complimentary secure parking on the grounds of the nearby Simon van der Stel School. They will also receive a complimentary programme and the opportunity to sit in the reserved pre-show seating area, with exclusive access to the Festival’s main bar. Premium reserved seating in the theatre will give VIP ticket holders the best seats in the house with pillows and blankets arranged on their seats to ensure a warm and comfy evening.
